The Launching of Cytolon AG
Berlin, April 14th, 2008 – Thomas Klein, principal founder and Chief Executive Officer, is pleased to announce the launching of Cytolon AG, a private company based in Berlin, Germany that has developed a proprietary, patent-pending, global, internet-based cord blood brokering platform termed CordMatch®. This platform is positioned to profit from the crossroads of the personal data and cellular therapeutic markets of regenerative medicine.
Cytolon's mission is to be the world's first trusted source for getting the correct, best-matched cord blood unit (CBU) to the patient that needs it in a timely manner. An accurate cord blood matching platform is imperative as a CBU must accurately match the histocompatibility antigens and genetic needs of the patient. Cytolon provides solutions and services for today and the future so world-wide transplant centers (TC) and physicians can talk efficiently and effectively to world-wide cord blood banks (CBB), registries, industry partners and service providers.
Cytolon's experienced team is lead by its founder, Thomas Klein. Mr. Klein is an internationally experienced business entrepreneur with a proven track record and more than twenty years of professional experience and twelve years as a founder, CEO, and principal of companies in the technology and biotechnology areas. Mr. Klein is supported by a world-class board of executive and non-executive directors.
Dr. Pia Krone, an investor and co-founder of the company, is Chairperson of the Supervisory Board. She has been practicing corporate law in Berlin for the past 14 years, manages her own legal office and is co-founder of a family-owned consulting company with a particular focus on small and medium-sized technology companies.
Dr. Joachim Dudenhausen, Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board, is also co-founder of the company and Head of the Obstetric Clinics of the Charité in Berlin, which boast more than 5000 births annually. He is an internationally recognized scientist with more than 500 publications. Since 1983, Dr. Dudenhausen has been Editor in Chief of the Journal of Perinatal Medicine. Dr. Dudenhausen holds a multiplicity of national and international awards.
As a further member of the Supervisory Board, Cytolon counts on Ms. Katherina Reiche, member of the German Parliament since 1998. Ms. Reiche leads the majority of her fraction's initiatives in Research and Technology and plays a prominent role in German and European stem cell politics.
Prior to Cytolon's launching, its team had been working for 18 months on the development of the company's strategy and positioning and as well as on the marketing research, leading to the conclusion that the services this company will provide are in great demand and mean hope for patients who currently need to wait too long to identify the donor they need.
