Cytolon and DKMS Cord Blood Bank announce collaboration for CordMatch’s Beta-Testing Phase

Cytolon has gained DKMS Cord Blood Bank as a partner for the important beta-testing phase of CordMatch®. The DKMS Cord Blood Bank is a 100% owned subsidiary of the DKMS German Bone Marrow Donor Registry GmbH, the largest stem cell donor center worldwide with over 30% of the market share of donated stem cell units.

Berlin/Dresden 08 March 2011. CordMatch® is a unique and newly developed IT platform that connects cord blood banks and registries with transplant centers and offers an optimal solution to identify matching cord blood units for leukemia patients. The web-based platform is the first to provide complete process chain management from match identification through follow-up within one integrated system.

Dr. Alexander Schmidt, CEO of DKMS Cord Blood Bank is confident that CordMatch® is an important tool to offer cord blood units to a wider spectrum. “We believe that CordMatch® is an important innovation for the whole field of care of leukemia patients, and are therefore keen to secure collaboration early.” Dr. Alexander Platz, the medical director of the cord blood bank in Dresden sees important synergies with the strategy of the DKMS Cord Blood Bank. “With our cord blood bank we are preparing for strong growth in the area of cord blood units. In addition to increasing investments in our headquarters in Dresden, CordMatch® is an ideal service to enable us to offer our cord blood units worldwide.” All involved parties have agreed to work closely together to exchange information and experience during the multi-month beta phase. The market launch of CordMatch® is planned for summer 2011.

About the DKMS and DKMS Cord Blood Bank

The DKMS Cord Blood Bank is a 100% subsidiary of DKMS German Bone Marrow Donation Registry. The DKMS was founded in 1991 and, with over 2.3m registered donors, is the largest stem cell donor center worldwide. Over 24k donors have already donated stem cells or bone marrow, and thus given a leukemia patient a new chance at life.

The DKMS has been collecting cord blood since 1997 through collaboration with University Clinic Dresden and within the scope of a third party funded project. Since the end of 2008, the non-profit organization, DKMS Cord Blood Bank has been a member of the DKMS family. Cord blood collected for the DKMS Cord Blood Bank is prepared and stored in Dresden. To date this includes over 3,600 preparations. Nationwide there are already 150 cooperating clinics with specially trained personnel collecting donations for the DKMS Cord Blood Bank.
